Excerpts From The Book

Help Save The Planet poster-1-1

William Is Going Green offers children the following tips to use to become little eco-warriors .

1. Turn off the lights; when you’re asleep at night.

2. Brush your teeth, have fun, but don’t let the water run.

3. Don’t throw away your toys; Give them to other girls and boys.

“At book readings the kids love to raise their hands to be the first to recite the green tips”. Says the author James Martin II.

“Children are the biggest advocates for what they believe in. The compliments I love to get are when parents tell me ‘James you’re getting me in trouble, my kid asked me why we don’t recycle’. It proves that a eco-children’s character can have a lasting effect not only on children but their parents alike. Hopefully through William and Crew, families can come together to make a huge dent in slowing global warming”. Calmly states Martin II.

It’s All Well Worth It

June 7, 2008

I guess the author James Martin II couldn’t have imagined a better response from the children who read his book William Is going Green. He received the below letter from Sharon Weisman (Account Executive for License! Global Magazine) to say thanks for a job well done.

The letter:

I wanted to tell you a personal story of mine regarding the great thing you are doing for our kids and the earth they live in:

I have a nephew, his name is Ittai and he is 4 years old.
For over a year now he’s been sleeping with the light on in his room (because there are monsters in his closet of course!).
Nothing helped. We couldn’t persuade him that he’s old enough to sleep in the dark and that there was nothing there. Even when we used to shut the light after he fell asleep, he used to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and turn it back on while walking back to bed.

I gave him your book. I knew he’d love it because he’s all about trucks! Yesterday morning, he ran to his dads bed and with pride declared:
“Dad, I slept with the light off all night!”
When he was asked how he overcame his fear he said: “William the truck said it will save light”. I think that’s amazing. Thank you so much! It’s a wonderful thing you and your son are doing!
Good luck.
Kind regards,

Sharon Ann Weisman
Account Executive.

“When I hear from people and get these types of responses, all the work makes it well worth it” says James II. I’m excited everytime I hear that the children take things from ‘William” and use it in their everyday lives”.

Story Telling Time

June 7, 2008

Story telling timeWilliam the Garbage & Crew rolled into Greenwich, CT for the official launch of the first book in the series William Is Going Green. The party was a huge success as eco-fans, kids and parents alike lined up to receive their autographed copy of the character book. The author James Martin II along with his 4 year old son and co-author James Martin III was on hand to sign each and every copy.

The party room was decorated with bio-degradeable balloons. The children were able to participate in green arts and crafts. i.e making wallets from recyclable cereal boxes, designing art with old cd’s and being able to recycle materials themselves that they used during the party in large containers. Picking the right container proved to be the task of the day for the youngsters.

The children were delighted to be read to by Michelle Martin (a former pre-school teacher). During the four readings of the day, the kids sat quietly and eagerly watched with excitement as they awaited the next page.

It was such a success, that there are plans to have another launch party at the FAO Schwartz in Manhattan, NY mid summer.

Please sign up above to be added to the list for notifications on the launch and other events.

Tipper Gore Gets Her Autographed Copy

June 1, 2008

Tipper Gore Receives Her BookTipper Gore didn’t leave Greenwich, Connecticut empty handed. James Martin II the author of “William Is Going Green” was more than happy to autograph a copy of the book for Al and Tipper Gore’s three grandchildren. Tipper says “I’m going to read it to them myself and the children’s book is such a great idea. I’m sure they will enjoy”.

Both of the environmental friendly spokespersons were at the grand opening of the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams furniture store in Greenwich.

Asked later by friends of what it meant to have Tipper Gore receive his eco-friendly children’s book, Martin II states “that it felt good to know that I received the stamp of approval from such a big name in the world of ‘going green’. What bigger name is there that represents the fight against global warming than the wife of former Vice President Al Gore ,the producer of the movie An Inconvenient Truth . For me it’s a blessing, the Gore’s are my own environmentally responsible role models”.

The books are available for purchase in Borders book stores, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble online, Independent book stores and here on the “William” site.
